For the third consecutive year, the UK Defence Journal has achieved a perfect 100/100 score from NewsGuard, reaffirming its position as a leading source of credible, transparent, and accurate reporting on defence and military issues.
We believe that this accolade reflects the journal’s steadfast dedication to maintaining high journalistic standards in an era where trust in media is more vital than ever.
NewsGuard evaluates news outlets across nine criteria, such as sourcing reliability, transparency of ownership and corrections, and clear distinction between news and opinion.
“The site adheres to all nine of NewsGuard’s journalistic integrity criteria, which include presenting information responsibly, regularly correcting errors, and disclosing ownership and financing.”
According to NewsGuard, the UK Defence Journal meets these benchmarks consistently, describing it as a source that “avoids deceptive headlines, gathers and presents information responsibly, and regularly corrects or clarifies errors.”
Why the UK Defence Journal Stands Out
The UK Defence Journal’s commitment to transparency and accountability is key to its recognition. NewsGuard praised the publication for its openness, noting that “UK Defence Journal discloses its funding sources and ownership and provides details about its editorial leadership.” Additionally, the journal makes a point of “clearly labelling opinion content and providing context to ensure accuracy.”
This emphasis on clarity and transparency is particularly crucial in the defence sector, where misinformation and speculation can spread rapidly. Our fact-checking efforts and thorough research process were also highlighted.
George Allison, editor of the UK Defence Journal, said:
“Achieving a perfect score for three years running is a remarkable achievement for our team. It reflects not only our commitment to high standards but also the trust our readers place in us. Transparency, accountability, and accuracy are at the core of everything we do.”
Joining the Ranks of the UK’s Most Trusted News Sites
The UK Defence Journal’s recognition extends beyond the perfect rating. NewsGuard recently named UKDJ as one of the top 10 most trustworthy and widely read news websites in the UK, placing it alongside national outlets like The Guardian and Manchester Evening News.
This recognition underscores the journal’s ability to deliver focused, impactful coverage while maintaining the standards of much larger, established outlets. Being named among the top 10 trustworthy sites is a significant milestone, especially for a niche publication.
A Shared Success
The journal’s continued success is a testament to the dedication of its contributors and the support of its readers.
“We owe a huge thank you to our readers for holding us to account and trusting us to bring them accurate and insightful reporting,” Allison added.
As the UK Defence Journal looks ahead, the focus remains on upholding these standards. In an age where misinformation threatens public trust, the journal’s commitment to transparency and integrity ensures it remains a beacon of reliable reporting in the defence sector.
Ace stuff
Congratulations to you and all your staff, George. Very well deserved recognition. I continue to be amazed at both the level of reporting by UKDJ staff and the depth of knowledge by your posters. Keep up the great work!
Brilliant news and just keep going as you are.
Excellent accolade and well deserved, no wonder I’m an avid reader.
You really do appreciate the quality of this site when you spend time on YouTube suffering from so much lame, unfocused, click bating sycophantic gibberish. So congratulations and well deserved. Contributors too play an important role here with their often expert and insightful posts.
Especially the clickbait youtube videos that just nick an article and put in a text to speech with visuals that don’t match.
Well deserved, congratulations to all the team.
Great work. Long may it continue.
i have no reason to doubt that score but just for information, the Washington Post is also rated 100…
So is Kim Jong-un. 🤭
But the Daily Telegrunt only makes 80, and GB News / Daily Mail / Daily Star are down around 60-70 – which are all far too kind. The Telegrunt, like the Mail, routinely inserts complete fabrications into its news articles in niches I know in detail.
Newsguard has had a problematic algorithm since it started, which is American media traditionalist, and all about process tick boxes not quality of content. It’s like Car and Driver used to mark steering systems on a car as a number out of 10.
Samples of content assessed are tiny, and their judgement about content seems highly questionable.
But good for you George, if this helps the site with people and groups who will pay for subs to Newsguard.
So this is leftist fake news rating. Ok.
Well done George, and the rest of the team.
Well done George and the team. Now, if you can only restore my notifications service (missing for 3 months) I will be even more happy.
