HMS Middleton is actively maintaining the Royal Navy’s presence in the Middle East, conducting joint patrols and mine clearance training across the Arabian Gulf.

The crew, according to their recent tweet, remains ready for any task, prepared to operate in various environments.

HMS Middleton uses advanced sonar, remote underwater vehicles, and a team of divers to find and deal with threats on the sea bed.

This work is important for keeping sea lanes open and safe, ensuring access to key areas, and protecting global energy supplies. HMS Middleton helps make sure the seas are safe for both commercial and military ships.

As part of Operation Kipion, HMS Middleton is one of the Royal Navy ships dedicated to keeping peace and stability in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. This operation helps secure the flow of oil and trade in the region.

With changes on the horizon as the Royal Navy shifts to more autonomous minehunting systems, HMS Middleton continues to play a vital role in these efforts.

Mines have been the most credible threat in the Red Sea since the ’80s. Seems like a fairly sensible deployment to me- accepting that we are on the verge of a paradigm shift in mine-countermeasures.

Sandown Class- HMS Bangor alongside having had repairs to her stern area completed post that bump.
The damage from Chid’s bump remains extant.

I’m curious why the US has multiple carrier strike groups headed to the region due to the escalations between isreal and Iran. How can one of the RN carriers hasn’t been sent.

The UK sent the Island of Cyprus to the Med instead with an RAF Airbase on it.

Cyprus should have had Cats and Traps.

The US has plenty of air bases in the region also. Carriers are not really about actual combat capability, they are about sending a message, that Iran should think carefully before sending the region into war (the US should also be sending the same message to isreal but that is polictically impossible for them to do so).

Cyprus could be partially used in a similar way by sending a load of aircraft there, but that hasn’t happened.

Hats off to the divers for dealing with live ordnance up close and personal.
