QinetiQ has announced the launch of its new Bracer Android application, enhancing situational awareness for operators in tactical environments.
The Bracer system, with end-to-end encrypted FIPS 140-2 Level 3, Iridium Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Position Location Information (PLI) capabilities, now offers compatibility with Android devices.
Tim Williams, Business Development Manager for Secure Communications at QinetiQ, highlighted the significance of data access and processing in tactical operations:
“Accessing and processing data in the tactical domain has become essential for operators to maximise the probability of success.” He explained that this includes the passage of information such as full-motion video, imagery, chat functionality, threat changes, weather, enemy and friendly force positions, tactical plans, and intelligence.
Interoperability has been a key consideration from the initial design through to the introduction of Bracer, ensuring seamless integration with various audio ancillaries, data hubs, and command and control systems like ATAK, WinTAK, and Google Earth.
The new Android application allows Bracer to output in both Cursor on Target (CoT) and KML formats, enabling position reports to be overlaid in third-party Geospatial Information Systems (GIS).
Bracer is utilised in various roles, including military exercises and tactical operations, training expeditions, search and rescue, and border force patrols.
Bracer is terrible and I hate it.
