Raytheon, a business of RTX, has introduced a new high-definition variant of its Multispectral Targeting System (MTS) designed to enhance maritime helicopter operations.

The new system, known as MTS-A HD, is intended to provide U.S. Navy helicopter pilots with sharper imaging and improved targeting accuracy during missions in challenging environments.

Raytheon stated that the upgraded sensor suite builds on the company’s existing MTS systems, already in service on more than 400 U.S. Navy helicopters.

“Navy helicopter pilots need the clearest possible view when flying in hostile areas,” said Bryan Rosselli, president of Advanced Products & Solutions at Raytheon. “Our new high-definition sensor system provides aircrews with superior visual capability, allowing them to make faster and more informed decisions when it matters most.”

According to Raytheon, MTS-A HD features a modular architecture, enabling cost-effective integration with current systems and allowing operators to upgrade without replacing entire sensor suites. The company is collaborating with commercial and industry partners to streamline production and control system costs.

In addition to its deployment plans for the U.S. Navy, Raytheon noted significant international interest in MTS-A HD from countries including Australia, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, India, Norway, Greece, Spain, South Korea and others across Europe and Asia.

The MTS product family forms part of Raytheon’s broader portfolio of advanced sensors, integrated defence solutions, and targeting technologies. The new variant is designed to support critical maritime security operations, particularly in contested or degraded environments.

  1. UHD will obviously be next.

The west keeps improving – let’s hope that none of this tech is seeping into the hands of hostile nations..
