The Royal Air Force has joined France’s premier multinational air exercise, Volfa 2025, operating alongside the French Air and Space Force and other European partners to strengthen interoperability and collective defence, according to the Ministry of Defence.

Held in south-west France, Exercise Volfa brings together air forces from across Europe to conduct complex air operations in a simulated high-threat environment.

The training focuses on air-to-air combat, close air support and large-scale mission planning, preparing crews for joint operations under NATO and European security frameworks.

The RAF contribution includes personnel and an A400M from 30 Squadron, RAF Brize Norton. According to the Ministry of Defence, this deployment demonstrates the RAF’s ability to integrate effectively with allied forces and its ongoing commitment to multinational readiness.

“Exercise Volfa provides an invaluable opportunity for the RAF to train alongside our French and NATO partners in a challenging and dynamic environment,” said Squadron Leader Luke Jules, the RAF Detachment Commander for Volfa 2025.

“By working together, we enhance our ability to respond to shared security challenges and reinforce the strong bonds between our nations.”
