BAE Systems has been awarded $68 million in contracts to produce 44 additional Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicles (CATVs) for the U.S. Army.

The order includes a $48 million extension to a full-rate production contract issued in August 2022, and a further $20 million in funding for 2025.

Dean Medland, Vice President of Sustainment & International at BAE Systems, expressed confidence in the vehicle’s capabilities, saying, “The CATV provides a dynamic combination of mobility and flexibility to the U.S. Army, enabling rapid response in all terrains. We are proud to support additional CATV production and believe its go-anywhere ability and modular design will meet future operational needs, from military operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster response.”

The CATV is based on the unarmoured Beowulf variant from the BvS10 family, chosen by the U.S. Army in 2022 to replace the Bv206 for Arctic operations. Designed for extended operations in harsh environments, the Beowulf offers a modernized solution for force projection in the region.

Known for its dual-body amphibious configuration, the vehicle delivers superior tactical mobility, capable of navigating terrain where other vehicles struggle. The vehicle, says its builders, draws on proven, battle-tested driveline technology, offering reliability and durability in demanding conditions.

Manufactured by BAE Systems Hägglunds in northern Sweden, the Beowulf benefits from the company’s extensive expertise in operating in Arctic environments.

  1. The BVs are so much fun to drive. I think there are now a few tank experience companies that have BVs. If you get the opportunity have a go with the BV, you won’t be disappointed.
