Labour MP Alex Baker recently questioned the Ministry of Defence about the state of military housing in the Aldershot constituency.
He asked “what assessment his Department has made of the adequacy of armed forces accommodation in Aldershot constituency; and what plans he has to improve that accommodation.”
Luke Pollard, Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, provided a detailed response on 9th October 2024. He highlighted that “there are 3,406 Service Family Accommodation (SFA) properties in Aldershot, and it is assessed that 3,290 (96.6%) of these currently meet or exceed the Government wide Decent Homes standard.”
Pollard acknowledged the ongoing concerns about housing quality, noting that the Ministry of Defence “recognises poor quality housing is an issue for Service Families and continues to champion investment to improve this.”
Pollard also provided details on Single Living Accommodation (SLA) in Aldershot, stating that “there are 4,657 Single Living Accommodation (SLA) bedspaces in Aldershot, of which 3,077 (66%) are assessed as Grade One (the highest grade) for condition.”
He mentioned that the SLA is maintained under specific agreements, including Project Allenby Connaught and the Holdfast Training Services partnership.
However, he indicated that “there are no major works planned on SFA or SLA in the current financial year,” suggesting a focus on maintaining current standards rather than initiating new upgrades at this time.
Alex Baker MP is a She, not a He.
“Aldershite” as it is known to us locals.
Hi mate, once I got married in the shot I moved to Ramilies Park married quarters! Had to be some of the worst, wooden flats in existence! Obviously all knocked down now. Aldershot has changed so much over the years to now be unrecognisable mate. However I did love my time in the shot, before we all moved to Colchester. I have a bit more time on my hand now so can read and chat a bit more back on here. Hope all is well with you.
My old friend.
A warm welcome back mate.
Yes, busy time dealing with the loss, not only of mum last year, as you know, but now Dad too.
But it’s good, life moves on.
All my respect and thoughts mate! Life moves on all we can do is roll with it and do the best we can, in the most decent way we can! Good to be back for a waffle and chat!
Good to see you back, Airborne. Hope you bring us more of your ‘forthright’ and entertaining posts!
I will try my best mate 👍
Don’t worry, we’ll take good care of all your establishments, very busy painting all the Maroon Grey.
Hi are mad Dern, you do know that don’t you lol!😜
they should take a look at baker barracks half the camp live in SSSA because of lack of suitable accommodation the technical areas flood due to the roofing and plumbing. autumn to spring the island is usually flooded at the only road access with brackish water damaging your car, the kids even had to use SVs to get them to school on the island and the massive pot holes everywhere. the camp often has random civvies just walking around as there is a public footpath and it doesn’t have a perimeter fence so free to roam, being home to the UKs only GBAD assets doesn’t seem very adequate
