BAE Systems has won a contract from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for four Bofors 57Mk3 naval gun systems along with 57mm 3P ammunition, according to the company.

Stefan Löfström, marketing and sales director at BAE Systems Bofors, said: “This contract reinforces our long-standing role as a trusted partner to the Swedish armed forces and FMV, and our commitment to supporting the Swedish Navy with world-class capability. It demonstrates Sweden’s absolute confidence in the Bofors 57Mk3 and its advanced 3P ammunition as key capabilities for Sweden’s maritime defence.”

The 57Mk3 is a multirole gun built for air defence, anti-surface warfare and naval fire support. Paired with the programmable 3P round, which is pre-fragmented and proximity fused, it can engage drones, aircraft, missiles and surface targets.

The gun is made at the Bofors site in Karlskoga, which BAE Systems acquired through its purchase of United Defense in 2005, and the 57mm family is in service with the Swedish, Finnish, Canadian, Mexican and United States navies. The American variant is designated the Mk 110 and arms the Littoral Combat Ship and the Constellation class frigates.
