The Ministry of Defence has issued a contract award notice for the purchase of additional Threod CATA launchers to support the British Army’s emerging one-way effector (OWE) capability under the ASGARD programme.
The direct award contract, valued at £4,996,500 excluding VAT (£5,995,800 including VAT), has been awarded to Estonia-based Threod Systems AS and will run from 2 March 2026 until 31 March 2027. A standstill period is in place until 25 February, with the earliest contract signature date listed as 2 March.
According to the notice, a Threod CATA launcher was first procured through ASGARD in financial year 2024-25 for integration and trials with the DART250 one-way effector. The MOD said that throughout 2025 the launcher underwent mobility, safety and launch trials with the Army Trials Unit and suppliers, with the trials also demonstrating interoperability with another Army OWE. Following what the MOD described as successful testing, the launcher has been requested by other defence departments for future OWE trials.
The MOD said additional CATA launchers are required to equip initial Field Army OWE detachments in order to meet minimum deployable capability, provide capacity for training and trials, and ensure resilience for deployed operations. It added that the Threod system is currently the only proven launcher capable of supporting both ASGARD and other OWE projects, describing it as the only common interoperable solution across Defence one-way effector programmes.
The contract includes options allowing further purchases while the agreement remains valid, including additional launchers, spares, and associated support and training packages.

Related, also reading an MoD contract online that the Army are buying another OWE, the Callen Lenz Nyan.
Seems if we call them one way effectors instead of drones we can buy them without a ten year assessment program.
Treated like ammunition then instead of a capability
One way effector.. orrrrr missile.. it’s a slow missile.
Err because a one-way effector is a munition…
One step closer to a Callen Lenz Nyan cat(apult)
Let’s be honest this is actually impressive stuff.. the army has sorted deployment of a 250km range long range precision fires system.. that’s pretty good stuff.. piss the Russians off no end.. as the British army can now hit strategic targets in Russia.. they hate us anyway and only respect the ability to smash them in the face… so what the hell.
I got the impression reading about Modini 250 and the latest one I referenced above that they’re only given to Cabrit based units, whatever they are. Assume Dets in the Batteries of the RA Regiments there.
I’d like to see these as standard across other formations.
It seems to me they are using op Cabrit as both a testbed for new stuff and a new doctrine around procurement and moving things to an operational standing..
Op Cabrit sort of reminds me of what they did in Salisbury plain mid war with armoured warfare ( let’s hope they actually take the learning and lessons).
Wouldn’t it have made more sense to purchase effectors that could 5ake off vertically from any flat surface?
