As of the 23rd August 2021, a new MTP Barrack shirt will be offered to troops with a slimmer profile and in a wider range of sizes.

The new MTP Shirt is due to be issued next week and is aimed at providing troops a wider variety of sizes that according to the new Army Sergeant Major:
“will particularly benefit women & men of smaller stature” – WO1 Carney
The shirt will include a smaller 150cm length and have chest size increments of 5cm rather than 8cm. This allows a tighter and more comfortable fit than previous shirt iterations. Furthermore, the pockets will be scaled to the size of the shirt rather than a standard size that could look oversized on smaller shirts.
This change has come into effect after feedback has been received through the Chain of Command and the Sergeant Major network.
The older MTP PCS Barrack Shirt was based upon the old CS95 DPM shirt that many will remember from the 80s through to the early 2000s. The shirt had extra material that made it look disproportionate on the smaller figured men and women of the armed forces.
Should any serving members of the Army wish to be issued this new shirt they can check out ABN 083/2021 on Defence Connect and will be issued 3 new shirts as of next week.

Why do people on your side of the fence always bring up hypotheticals like that to stir up imagined panic about diversity. I’ve got news for you, there have always been people who sleep with their own gender in the armed services. Want some historic examples of famous military leaders who probably did the same, try Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Frederick the Great, Charles the Bold, William of Orange etc
I don’t need to go that far back, I had plenty mates who did it when in the mob.

Well at least something has been done right. Not sure how far this goes to mitigate the past 20 years of operational and procurement failure though 😅.
Poor Quality like the rest of the kit they wear. Not suitable for anywhere except the place we have run out on. Combat 95 was a much better and suitable kit than the Chinese nock off we wear now. Dont last and looks rubbish.

I wear MTP as an ACF officer. It feels very thin compared to the CS95 that I wore as a Regular. Even the small sizes of MTP look big on our small cadets so this announcement is long overdue.
My “Soldier 95” from TA days is still going strong, I use it for shooting about twice a week, so its hammered. I got hold of various bits of this new wonder kit to give it a try. Now not being one to be judgemental, I came to the conclusion it is crap. That was after a smock split up the sides, no not because I am overweight. And in serious rain? It all leaks. Smock, shirt the so called waterproofs….Still, its good to know somebody in China or somewhere is going to make little people look ally in barracks.
You know, the army really needs to square it’s shirt terminology.

Is a Combat Jacket the normal thing you wear over a T-shirt (or not as the case may be) or the Smock you wear when the weather is bad? Depends on who you are talking to. Is a Barrack Shirt the beige thing you wear when working in an office, or is it the specific MTP shirt you wear when you’re in camp but not on exercise (if you make a difference between those)? GUESS.
They have no idea but the ‘shirt’ referred too is actually a Jacket and there fore should NOT be worn like a shirt and tucked in (it’s too short anyway to do so really). Poor quality when we get the cheap imported crap from China, all our kit should be UK made, spending the cash in the UK would boost jobs too here and lets get some kit that lasts. The older patterns where so much better to wear and of course lasted too. God helps those that serve presently for they do not look the part.
I think we look the part way better than the old army that was way too interested in how shiny it’s garrison boots were.
As for poor quality, I’ve had the same combat shirt for the last 4 years and it’s holding up fine, so…. not sure what you’re on about.
Same here mate, I joined as the 95 kit came in and every one complained about it just like those on here are complaining about the new stuff. I love our MTP clothing now, it is much better than the old stuff and I have had my kit a lot longer than I ever had an item of 95 kit so I don’t know what these people are wearing and were their quality concerns are. The new kit is just far better, both in and out of camp.
