On 13 November 2024, NATO’s air defences responded to Russian aircraft approaching international airspace in the Baltic Sea and off Norway’s coast.
In an operation coordinated under NATO’s authority, Italian and Norwegian fighter jets scrambled to intercept and identify multiple Russian aircraft that were not adhering to international flight norms.
As reported by NATO Air Command on social media, Italian fighter jets intercepted a Russian Coot-A over the Baltic Sea, while Norwegian F-35s were dispatched to identify and monitor multiple Russian aircraft flying near the Norwegian coast.
The NATO response underscores the alliance’s commitment to maintaining airspace security and upholding international norms, with NATO’s air policing missions continuing to ensure that any potential threat is managed effectively.
