Saab has received a third Lithuanian order for its Mobile Short Range Air Defence system, with a contract valued at roughly 1.4 billion Swedish kronor and deliveries scheduled from 2026 to 2030, the company stated.

According to the announcement, Saab will supply a full MSHORAD battery integrated onto Oshkosh JLTV 4×4 vehicles for the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The company said this continues the country’s effort to expand mobile air defence capacity.

Görgen Johansson, who leads Saab’s Dynamics division, was quoted saying “we are proud to continue contributing to keeping the Lithuanian skies safe” and argued that the system can operate in the presence of advanced countermeasures.

Saab describes MSHORAD as a vehicle mounted system intended to shield mobile units from aerial threats. The configuration includes a mobile radar unit and a firing unit built around the RBS 70 NG short range missile.

It also incorporates the Giraffe 1X radar and a command and control network linking the system through a datalink. These claims reflect the company’s view of the system’s capabilities, which it presents as offering rapid detection, identification and engagement of airborne targets.

The order builds on earlier Lithuanian acquisitions of the same system and aligns with the country’s broader investments in short range air defence.

  1. Xmas is coming and all the other Children have their presents under their Trees. Meanwhile here in UK “Rachel from accounts” has let Mr Healey increase his annual budget from £56.9 billion to £73.9 billion by 28/29 a total of £18.1 Billion more !

The tree is up in Downing Street so WHERE ARE OUR NEW PRESENTS 😡

    • We’ve ordered 12 Rapid Ranger vehicles and supposedly doubling the number of i-launchers available for SkySaber batteries. We also have CAMM-MR underdevelopment that we are taking a significant part of the cost for. This also ignores SeaViper evolution with Aster-30/1, T-45 CAMM integration and serious advancements in what are now actually deployable laser & microwave systems – this is all happening in light of the increase in defense spending the last few years…

      • So the we had 71 Rapier systems we replace them with six or seven Sky Sabre 2 are abroad at at any time that leaves possible 4 battery of 8 (yes more sophisticated) but not enough and they have yet to orders them, just talking about it. 12 rapid rangers are ordered for Ukraine not to protect our armed forces..

The systems mentioned are mostly naval and under development and not actually available, we seem to be think that Putin going to give us plenty of notice before hand to get ready. The spending increases unfortunately is not keeping up with inflation.

We could list a whole lot of future projects that a years away from fruition for RAF RN BA but we don’t have them to defend ourselves

        • We haven’t had 71 Rapier systems since the 1990s, the ~6 batteries of Skysaber (24+ iLaunchers) can cover a wider AREA than multiple dozen point defense Rapiers could and are a much, much more effective system with a kill probability we could have only dreamed of with the legacy system. The Rapid Ranger are bought for the RA not Ukraine, they are replacing the 6 Alvis Stormers we have sent. Naval SAMs offer protection to us in a way they don’t to other countries we are fortunate to be out of the range of Russian TBMs and cheap one way munitions, the cruise missile that would threaten us are better to be countered out at sea before they reach the mainland for a number of reasons.
