BMT, as part the Aurora Engineering Partnership, has secured an £18 million contract from Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) to provide technical documentation services for the Royal Navy (RN) and Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) surface ships and submarines.

This four-year contract, led by BMT, underlines the company’s long-standing partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and its critical role in ensuring the operational readiness of the Royal Navy.

The contract falls under the Aurora Engineering Partnership, which includes industry giants QinetiQ and AtkinsRéalis, with BMT taking the lead in delivering this essential service.

BMT’s deep expertise in managing technical documentation ensures the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of complex maritime systems throughout their lifecycle. The technical documentation will provide up-to-date support for both RN and RFA fleets, helping them remain operational and mission-ready.

“We are incredibly proud to lead this pivotal contract,” said Toby Drywood, Sales Account Manager – UK Ships at BMT. “BMT’s collaborative approach, coupled with our long-standing expertise in technical documentation, places us in a strong position to deliver value-driven, high-quality solutions.”

This latest contract builds on BMT’s previous work, including a successful technical documentation project in 2019 that significantly improved the Royal Navy’s operational capabilities. The new agreement consolidates multiple existing contracts into a streamlined solution that promises faster, more cost-effective services.

The Aurora Partnership has already delivered hundreds of critical solutions to the Ships Domain, and this contract continues the tradition of providing cutting-edge innovations to enhance the Royal Navy’s fleet.

In addition to technical documentation, the new agreement will support key digital initiatives such as the Royal Navy’s ‘Digital Twin’ and ‘Support Information Knowledge Management (S-IKM)’ systems. These programmes integrate advanced data management solutions that allow real-time access to essential information, facilitating seamless maintenance and support operations both at sea and onshore.

This contract also highlights BMT’s role in the larger Aurora Engineering Partnership. The partnership aims to deliver faster, better, and more cost-effective solutions for the MOD by leveraging the capabilities of its member organisations.

With over a decade of experience in this field, BMT’s leadership on this project reaffirms its commitment to technical excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous innovation in support of the Royal Navy’s future operational requirements.
