HMS Trent sailed in company with FS Commandant Birot yesterday in the Black Sea.

The River class Offshore Patrol vessel is in the area to reassure NATO allies.

The 2021 UK defence white paper announced that HMS Trent would be permanently based in Gibraltar for operations in the Mediterranean and in the Gulf of Guinea, she arrived in Gibraltar in April 2021.

Last month there were reports that Britain will soon send a Type 45 destroyer and Type 23 frigate to the Black Sea, these will come from the Carrier Strike Group 21 deployment as the group pass the area.

The Gibraltar-based HMS Trent’s arrival follows the US Coast Guard vessel Hamilton in the Black Sea.

Just looked it up, they were re-classed as OPV’s and lost some of their Weapons but at @ 1100 Tons they still have a fair selection especially if you just look at HMS Trent at @2000 Tons. Nearly 40 years old this one but still has some life I guess.

The last time us and the French went to the Crimea, it didn’t end well.
