The Royal Air Force’s 140 Expeditionary Air Wing is continuing to fulfill the Combined NATO Air Policing Mission in Estonia alongside their German Air Force allies over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
The RAF detachment in Estonia will continue to perform their role to the highest of standards while many family members and friends in the UK enjoy the Easter bank holiday, say the RAF here.
For the detachment, as for many Christians and individuals of all faiths in the UK and around the world, Easter represents a time of personal reflection and unity.
The Royal Air Force recently took over command responsibility for the NATO Combined Baltic Air Policing mission in Estonia from the German Air Force.
The combined mission began in March, and both nations have performed well together, with several successful intercepts of Russian aircraft flying close to Estonian airspace.
The UK and German detachments will continue to operate as a closely integrated and synchronised force over the Easter period and through to the end of April to ensure the safety of NATO territory and bolster security in the Baltic region.
Although the German Air Force will depart at the end of April, the Royal Air Force will continue to undertake the NATO mission to the highest of standards as the sole nation until August.
How close have those Russian aircraft come to Estonian airspace, I wonder.
