Ferguson Marine has announced the appointment of Duncan Anderson as Interim Chair of its Board, following the planned departure of current Chair Andrew Miller at the end of November, according to the company.

Anderson, who joined the Board as a Non-Executive Director in March 2025, is a Chartered Marine Engineer with more than 40 years of experience in ship operations and shipbuilding. He will work alongside Miller over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition while recruitment for a permanent chair continues.

Graeme Thomson, CEO of Ferguson Marine, said in the press release:

“Andrew Miller has played an integral role in helping Ferguson Marine achieve several significant milestones. Under his chairmanship, he oversaw the successful handover of MV Glen Sannox, appointed a permanent Chief Executive, strengthened its Board with the recruitment of several experienced Non-Executive Directors, secured vital defence work with BAE Systems and improved delivery planning for Glen Rosa. We are extremely grateful to him for his hard work and dedication as Chair of the Ferguson Marine Board and wish him well.”

Anderson said: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to continue the important work Andrew has been doing as Interim Chair of our Board. Andrew’s support and leadership have been invaluable during my time as a Non-Executive Director, and I will work closely with him to ensure a smooth transition.”

Miller, who has served as Chair since 2022, will remain on the Board until 30 November 2025 before stepping down to focus on other professional and personal commitments. “Serving as Chair of Ferguson Marine has been a great privilege,” he said. “Under the watchful eye and steady hand of the remaining management team, Ferguson Marine is well positioned for the future.”

As Interim Chair, Anderson will oversee Ferguson Marine’s key priorities, including the delivery of MV Glen Rosa, ongoing defence contracts with BAE Systems, and the pursuit of new orders to strengthen the shipyard’s long-term future.

  1. I wish them well but I’m not really understanding how they have a role as a steelworker fabricator when it would be better to invest in automation at Govan.

Attention, automation and more automation is needed in the fabrication process.

  2. Seems one big problem over the years at Fergusons has been the levels and numbers of incompetent board members who constantly get replaced ,why are so many senior positions required for such a small business .

      • Looks like a merry go round of folks getting big pay offs for doing not very much , typical of government owned and run business .

        • No investment capital.

          Can’t change the workforce.

Basically you are keeping a seat warm ready to be blamed for the next balls up that was baked in before you’d ever heard of Ferguson.

That is never going to attract the dynamic types.

          • I’ve been aware of Fergusons for more than 5 decades when they were a successful shipyard , seems like the ferry debacle over last 10 years has completely ruined any chance of a future for them .

              • Been saying that for years, hence the bleak future situation now .They asked for £14 million for yard upgrades to help make them competitive and this doesn’t look forthcoming . Bidding for work with their hands tied isnt going to help.

                • Fergies are asking to be awaded contracts on the promise of new kit being delivered to enable them.

The only issue with new kit is that it need to be
                  specced
                  ordered
                  installed
                  debugged
work force used to using it
                  QA built up
                  etc etc

Some of those processes loop for a long time getting the bugs out.

You don’t just buy machine ABC and things get better in a factory overnight. Whole processes and cultures need to be built around.

                  • I’m Well aware of that , the money should have been spent on new kit years ago , the government probably know it’s too late now to invest or they don’t care what happens to the business .

  3. Duncan anderson, the guy who nearly sent Gulf Marine Services into administration, only a few years after their iPod at 135GBp, the shares were below 50GBp when he “resigned”….almost the entire board got the sack….GMS never recovered.
What ships has he actually built.?
