Ferguson Marine has announced another milestone in the construction of MV Glen Rosa, confirming that installation of the vessel’s galley has been completed, the company stated.
In a post marking the progress, the shipbuilder described the galley as “the beating heart of a vessel for both passengers and crew, where CalMac Ferries Limited’s iconic CalMac and cheese will be made.”
The company said the installation brings the ferry closer to delivery, calling it “a proud moment for everyone involved” in the project. Ferguson Marine thanked its workforce for their continued dedication and Promart Manufacturing for supplying the galley’s equipment.
MV Glen Rosa is being built for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) and is the sister ship to MV Glen Sannox.
Earlier this year, Ferguson Marine also signed a contract with BAE Systems to fabricate three major structural components for HMS Birmingham, the fourth ship in the Royal Navy’s Type 26 frigate programme. The work will sustain and expand the Port Glasgow yard’s 300-strong workforce over the next two to three years.
The contract follows previous collaboration between Ferguson Marine and BAE Systems in 2024, when the yard delivered hull sections for another Type 26 frigate. Those units were transported to BAE’s Govan facility aboard the CW-9 barge operated by Coastworks, demonstrating the yard’s ability to produce and move large-scale naval structures to exacting standards.
Chief Executive Graeme Thomson described the new agreement as “a significant step for Ferguson Marine”, saying it reaffirmed the yard’s place in the UK’s shipbuilding landscape. He added that the deal would “enhance the UK’s world-class maritime capability” while creating opportunities for apprentices and new tradespeople to develop skills in advanced naval engineering.
