A Notice to Aviation (NOTAM) previously issued for RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire on 12 December 2024, between 12:00 and 23:00 UTC, indicated a potential drone operation involving up to 140 drones within a 0.2 nautical mile radius and a maximum height of 400 feet above ground level.

We understand this activity is not part of any operational capability or public demonstration.

While the details remain uncertain, it now appears unlikely that the operation will proceed as initially described.

The public is strongly advised against travelling to the area in expectation of an event. We apologise for not verifying these details more thoroughly before publishing and appreciate the clarification provided by authorities.

  1. It makes you think what kind of damage a swarm like that could do to an airbase. All antenna and air assets in the tarmac will be damaged, the control tower, any open entrances and entrances itself, windows…

  2. That is not a ‘massive ‘ swarm. Its a tiny flock.

When it’s up to the thousands it’ll be more realistic because that’s what we’re facing.

    • 100% and the civies have been doing this with far larger numbers for years. Way behind as usual. Still the most flying Cranwell has seen ina long while 🙂
