Leonardo has confirmed the acquisition of Axiomatics AB, a Swedish cybersecurity company specialising in dynamic access control, as part of its ongoing effort to expand its presence in the European cybersecurity market, according to a press release.

The Stockholm-based firm, founded in 2006 and also active in North America, provides platforms that support Zero Trust cybersecurity architectures through Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC).

This approach, they say, enables fine-grained, dynamic access decisions and is designed to meet the security requirements of mission-critical sectors such as defence, public agencies and infrastructure providers.

Leonardo described the acquisition as a “further step consolidating the company’s position of leadership in Trusted Cyber Security and contributing to Europe’s digital autonomy.” The deal follows a series of recent strategic moves by Leonardo in the region, including a partnership with Denmark’s Arbit, the purchase of a 24.55 percent stake in Finland’s SSH Communications Security Corporation, and an investment in Swedish start-up CanaryBit.

The company stated that Axiomatics’ offering strengthens its Global Cybersecurity Platform and enhances its ability to deliver comprehensive “cyber observability” through the Zero Trust model, which requires continuous verification of system, network, and data access. Leonardo said this model is intended to proactively address increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

The acquisition remains subject to regulatory clearance, including scrutiny by Swedish authorities under foreign direct investment (FDI) rules due to Axiomatics’ relevance to the defence sector. Leonardo was advised by PwC on the transaction.

Once completed, the company said, the integration of Axiomatics into Leonardo’s cybersecurity portfolio and global sales network will position it to pursue new market opportunities and generate value for customers and partners worldwide.
