Saab has received an order worth SEK 3 billion for RBS 70 Bolide short-range air defence missiles from the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, with deliveries planned between 2028 and 2032, according to the company.

The order was placed under an existing framework agreement covering Saab’s RBS 70 NG air defence missile solution, which involves Saab, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence. Saab states that the agreement provides a structured mechanism for Lithuania to procure additional elements of the system as part of its wider air defence planning.

According to Saab, the RBS 70 Bolide missile forms part of the RBS 70 NG system, which is designed to counter a range of aerial threats at short range. The company describes the system as a key component of Lithuania’s layered air defence, particularly in the context of protecting national airspace and deployed forces.

Commenting on the order, Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s Dynamics business area, said: “With this order, we continue our commitment to supporting the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ with our world-leading RBS 70 missiles. These form a key part of the nation’s air defence capability and contribute to keeping Lithuania’s airspace safe.”

Lithuania has operated the RBS 70 system since 2004. Saab states that the newer RBS 70 NG variant is also integrated into Lithuania’s vehicle-mounted mobile short-range air defence solution, intended to provide protection for manoeuvring units.
