Armed police have arrested two men after multiple people were stabbed on a train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday evening.

British Transport Police confirmed they were called to an LNER service at around 19:39 after reports of stabbings on board a northbound train travelling between Stevenage and Peterborough. The train was stopped at Huntingdon station, where armed officers detained two suspects. Cambridgeshire Constabulary said several victims were taken to hospital. No details have yet been released about the number of people injured or the extent of their wounds.

Police said the A1307 was closed near the town centre as emergency services continued to respond. Huntingdon station has also been shut, with National Rail confirming that all lines remain blocked while investigations continue.

A spokesperson for LNER urged passengers not to travel, warning of “major disruption across the route”. The operator added that services would remain suspended between Stevenage and Peterborough until police lifted restrictions.

Eddie Dempsey, general secretary of the RMT transport union, said he was “deeply concerned to hear reports of multiple people stabbed onboard an LNER train tonight” and offered solidarity to the victims and rail staff involved.

Politicians across parties described the events as “horrifying”. Conservative Party chairman Kevin Hollinrake wrote that his thoughts were “with the victims and the emergency services responding to this incident”, while Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp called it “a brutal mass attack” and urged police and ministers to provide updates as soon as possible.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough mayor Paul Bristow called the incident “horrendous” and said his thoughts were with those affected.

Rail disruption has spread beyond the East Coast Main Line, with delays and cancellations reported on multiple routes including Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, and Great Northern services. Police have not yet disclosed any motive. Both arrested men remain in custody as British Transport Police and Cambridgeshire officers continue their joint investigation.

      • I agree.
Ignoring any imminent mental health excuse its a matter of national security, of our communities across the entire nation filling up with murderers & rapist, not to mention the soon future requirement of being able to defend our towns from terror related drones being used to kill us.

God bless all the victims & families

    • It’s an article that George felt warranted an article on a UK centric defence website.
      Is it defence related?
If this is revesled as terrorism, conducted by illegals or migrants who are here and hate our way of life then, yes, it is.
The Counter Terrorist Police who work to defend the UK against terrorism are very much defence related as they include Special Branch and links to the Security Service.

We await confirmation, but it does not surprise me that posters jump to conclusions, as this keeps happening and the response from HMG is jog on or let’s blame Farage for “spreading division.”
      Bullshit. People are fed up.

I’d argue that terrorism, no matter the origin of the perpetrator, warrants an article. Do we have any information as to the background of the attackers? Going off the statistics, the vast majority of terrorism offenders are of a British background, according Migration Watch. Jumping to conclusions is perhaps understandable given the current climate in the nation, but those conclusions aren’t borne out in the data.

Perhaps an article on the sentencing of Jaysley Beck’s attacker should be considered as well. I think it’s a more defence-related topic given the wider implications on the BA.

      • Not saying that this incident is terrorist related probably be but down to mental health issues. But it is a circular argument, yes these thing’s happen and yes it sucks when they do, people like Farage use event’s like these to stoke division, It works. Then you get Muslim extremists saying look we told you, the west hates you and people get radicalised and carry out more events like this, and then you get people like Farage and the Tories stoking more division and on and on, hence the circular argument.

  1. Waiting for the motive to be announced and confirmation if terrorism.
The fact that they were arrested ( or allowed themselves to be arrested ) is a change from the normal terrorist who keep going until they are neutralised.
If terrorism it’s the first of many and will cause panic in the run up to Christmas with shopping , markets and the transport network at risk..

  2. If the Home Secretary tells us not to speculate, then it seems pretty obvious to most people that this incident was either terrorist or “illegal” person related.
My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and I hope that the real story behind the perpetrators will be released sooner rather than later.
I hope this isn’t another “Southport”, but suspect that it probably is.
