Ships from NATO’s Standing NATO Maritime Group (SNMG) arrived in Reykjavik, Iceland, this morning after participating in the maritime exercise ‘Dynamic Mongoose 24’.

The picturesque landscapes of Iceland provided a stunning backdrop to the naval group’s arrival.

RFA Tidesurge, part of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary which supports the Royal Navy, highlighted the scenic beauty of Iceland, expressing that the “stunning background never fails to disappoint.”

Dynamic Mongoose is an annual anti-submarine warfare exercise conducted by NATO, aiming to enhance cooperation and proficiency among its member navies.

      • Actually have known Americans who have traveled to Iceland, as tourists, voluntarily. Dunno, never even considered requesting an assignment to Keflavik. Always thought those billets were reserved for those caught copulating w/ the Commander’s daughter. 😉 But understand now that some of the some of the local flora and especially fauna (aka Icelandic babes) are spectacular! Nevertheless, still don’t believe it would compare to port visits of various Caribbean islands onboard one of the B2 River OPVs.

  1. Sorry, bit of a silly question, but does Iceland have its own navy? Maybe a candidate for some A140/T31s? Or, more Artic Patrol type ships?

    • Iceland has a Coast Guard. They currently operate 4 patrol vessels. Their naming convention is interesting: their ships are named after gods and goddesses from Norse mythology: ICGV “Freyja”, “Thor”, “Baldur” and “Odin”.
