QinetiQ has been awarded a substantial Aerial Target Systems (ATS-3) contract from the US Army, marking the company’s first role as a prime contractor in the US for advanced aerial target systems.

The contract, structured as an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) agreement, has a ceiling of $95 million and will see QinetiQ providing advanced aerial systems, including the MQM-185B (Banshee Jet 80+), to simulate threats for the US Army’s global training and testing exercises.

QinetiQ’s Group Chief Growth Officer, Sam Lewis, noted the significance of this step: “Achieving this first step of becoming a prime contractor to the US Army has been a global effort, drawing on our world-leading expertise in target systems, engineering, and robotics services from our operations in the UK, US, Australia, Germany, and Canada.”

He added that “being entrusted to help train and ready US troops to combat the evolving threats we collectively face cements QinetiQ’s global credibility as a provider of highly adaptable and affordable aerial targets.”

Under the contract, QinetiQ say it will leverage its expertise across the Group to research and develop new target technologies, engineer systems for improved performance, integrate advanced payloads for threat simulation, and provide software to enhance autonomous capabilities.
