The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is inviting tenders for the supply of around 100 Simulated Mine Targets (SMTs) and associated equipment, “to meet Royal Navy training commitments,” according to a contract notice.

Managed by the Sonar and Maritime Sensors (SaMS) Delivery Team, the new competitively awarded contract has an estimated value of £459,166 and includes “options for purchase of further articles.”

The notice specifies that “any potential bidder may be required to provide evidence of similar contracts performed either for the public or private sector within the last three years.” This requirement highlights the emphasis on proven track records in meeting defence-related project demands.

Issued under an open procedure, the tender outlines that “the procurement is covered by the Government Procurement Agreement: No,” and “the contract is subject to renewal: No.” Tenders must be submitted by 12:00pm on 2 April 2025, and must remain valid for three months beyond that deadline. The contract’s duration is listed as six months.

Further details, including technical and financial criteria, are provided in the tender documents. Companies interested in bidding can access the procurement details electronically via the link included in the notice.

Yes OK but just what actually is a simulated Mine Target ? …. I know about Killer Tomato’s and Banshees. but what is a simulated target ? How does it integrate with an organic weapon ?

Sounds like 65 gallon empty oil drums too represent buoyant mines 65 gallon oil drums filled with concrete too represent ground mines £ 1000 quid at the most .
