The United Kingdom has played an important role in supporting Afghanistan over the last 16 years and is committed to continuing this in the future, say the British Army in a release.

Published this week, a release from the British Army intends to highlight what the force is doing in the country.

It states that the support the UK provides on issues such as security, development and governance is crucial to building a stable state and reducing the terrorist threat to the UK.

“The Resolute Support mission is a non-combat operation, centred on training, advising and assisting the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces to improve their capacity and capabilities across a range of functional areas.

Keeping Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven for terrorism helps keep our streets safe. So it’s important that we work with the Afghan Government to develop their defence and security forces.”

The international community, through the NATO Resolute Support Mission, continues to support and develop capability within the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF).

British Armed forces lead within the seven nation Kabul Security Force, which directly advises the Afghan Kabul Garrison Command and provides force protection and protected mobility for coalition mentors as they advise around Kabul.

British Armed Forces also take the lead on building the capacity of the Afghan National Army Officers’ Academy, now in its fifth year, which is built upon the model of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

The Royal Air Force provides crucial helicopter lift to the broader Resolute Support mission in the form of Puma helicopters perfectly suited for the mountainous region in which Kabul is situated.

British military advisors are also working with NATO and Afghan partners across a range of Afghan Ministries, institutions and headquarters.
