The annual Ten Tors exercise, also known as Ex WYVERN TOR, is a large-scale outdoor event held on Dartmoor in Devon, designed to test the skills and endurance of young people from across the United Kingdom.

The event, led by the Army’s regional Headquarters for the South West, sees hundreds of troops provide support and guidance to participants.

A crucial aspect of the exercise is ensuring the safety of all involved, which requires effective management and coordination of airspace. This year, 845 Naval Air Squadron (NAS) and the Devon & Cornwall and Dorset Police Drone Team successfully deconflicted the airspace, showcasing the importance of collaboration and communication between different organisations.

At Ten Tors 2023, 845 NAS and the police drone team demonstrated their ability to deconflict the airspace, a key factor in ensuring a safe and seamless event. During the planning phase, both teams worked together to establish deconfliction parameters, setting clear boundaries and guidelines to avoid potential conflicts in the sky.

On the day of the event, the two teams maintained good communication, which allowed them to share the airspace and fly simultaneously without any issues. The successful deconfliction of airspace played a significant role in the overall success of the Ten Tors exercise, enabling both military and civilian organisations to carry out their respective tasks efficiently and safely.
