BAE Systems has secured a $202.4m contract from the US Army to manufacture explosives and related parts at a military ammunition factory.

The company will deliver the materials at Holston Army Ammunition Plant under the fixed-price-incentive contract, the US Department of Defense said Wednesday.

“BAE, Kingsport, Tennessee, was awarded a $202,437,733 fixed-price-incentive contract for the production and delivery of explosives and components at Holston Army Ammunition Plant, Tennessee.  One bid was solicited with one bid received.

Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 30, 2020.  U.S. Army Contracting Command, Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, is the contracting activity (W52P1J-19-D-0074).”

BAE is expected to finish contract work by September the 30th, 2020.

According to BAE, Spanning more than 6,000 acres, the Holston Army Ammunition Plant is the major supplier of explosive materials (primarily RDX- and HMX-based products) to the U.S. Department of Defense.

“The facility has state-of-the-art equipment and capabilities for nitration chemistry, acid handling and recovery, and other chemical-processing operations.”

Holston recently earned industry and national acclaim, say BAE, for producing IMX 101, the first in a family of ‘insensitive munitions.’

Insensitive munitions are far more stable than conventional TNT and Composition B, making the weapons systems they support safer for troops to transport and handle.

  1. Is the British Aerospace Corporation actually a British company anymore? It seems to have dropped the word British from its title! Is this a sign of things to come…the gradual erosion of our culture by an overweening country that is in absolute denial of its own heritage? God help us with any trade deal!

    • In regards to the trade deal closing comment H. Your warning should be noted by us all. I never expect to enter serious negotiations with reasonable people, its a dysfunctional process, with too often nasty, must win all attitudes, from your opposites. I hope the negotiation experience the government has had recently with the EU prepares our team for any trade deal meetings with the Americans. They are not our friends. They want to use us and plunder what’s left of our national treasure. Chlorinated chicken is the least of the concerns.

As for the massive US ammo agreement with the US company, known as BAE, these articles always cause me worry as I wonder if HM forces have sufficient stocks. Reading about ammo shortages in past Afghan conflict, the low number of tomahawks, the insufficient CIWS, etc. etc. alarms me.

      • As an American I had a diffferent view of this article. I was thinking it is amazing how many contracts this British Company wins in supporting the US military. It is a great achievement as I consider the UK our freinds and close ally. I’m sure there are many diffferent opinions on our relationship good/bad from both group of citizens.
