As UK policing deals with public disorder across the country, the Head of Counter Terrorism Policing Assistant Commissioner Matt Jukes has made the following statement.
“Counter Terrorism Policing is supporting forces across the UK in their response to the disgraceful disorder we have seen on our streets. This includes using our specialist capabilities to support the full range of police activity, including intelligence gathering and informing operational planning.
We know that many people will feel vulnerable at this time, and we are supporting local forces with protective security expertise and advice. We have seen terrible examples of violent crime, disorder and criminal damage, and charges are already being brought across the country. I am very clear that using terrorism legislation or declaring activity as terrorism has not been, and will not be, ruled out.
Counter Terrorism Policing is actively assessing incidents to understand whether terrorism legislation should be applied and we will make those judgements without fear or favour. Our message to those involved in this disorder is; we are watching and we will not hesitate to use our powers to protect our communities.”
This bloke is on the promotion path until they find something he can do.
Profoundly nowhere near the best Chief Constable that South Wales Police ever had.
If only the head of counter terrorism had applied such determined lack of hesitation to the real cause of all the riots in the first place, It’s not like the problem is invisible.
Sad thing is now anyone with concerns is instantly labelled an extreme far right thug.
Dangerous times I fear.
BOOM.
Police numbers at a dangerous low after 14 years of Tory cuts. CPS & forensics too. Prisons overcrowded due to failing to build new ones, many crimes ignored by the police. Society suffers & criminals left with free reign.
A proper idiot spouting.
Will no doubt ask for yet more powers in addition to surveillance that the Stasi would have been in awe of.
The profound stupidity of the police with their self aggrandisement, paramilitary behaviour, firearms pretending they are SF and run by idiots who would never have been promoted in the services. Sexism, racism and criminality rife in the ranks.
And they wonder why nobody respects them?
Two weeks ago, our brother tragically drowned in a lake whilst fishing, the police entered his home,(broke in) took his computer, phone, wallet and other items, we had a knock on the door on the evening to say that our Dad had died ! (apparently the computer got it wrong) . We spent the next 4 days trying to even speak to a human, have had no contact from anyone who knew what happened, the phone number 101 was useless and the local police station is not open to the public.
Police services seem to be a long way off what they used to be. Data protection also hinders any attempt to sort personal information and arrange any necessary actions regarding Banks and other financial institutions.
All told, this experience just highlights how out of touch and impersonal Policing has become.
Starmer seems to be using the law to quieten the fears that so many normal thinking people have right now. I hope no other atrocities occur again as i fear for the future of this country.
“Rivers of Blood”😧
I have a slightly different take.
The reason people are angry is the lack of feedback loops.
Nothing affects the way monoliths like NHS, Plod, DWP, HMRC operate because hiding from the unwashed is ‘efficient’
Actually the reverse is true. The in efficacy is that there is no mechanism to learn and improve.
The same for utility companies. Facing people off is a whole industry. The civil courts are overwhelmed so there is no records.
That is why people are angry as nobody has any say. That aspect of democracy and accountability is broken – it is called being human.
Yup, I agree with all that too.
I fear for my family and their family and can only find comfort in the fact that I’m old and will not live to see just how bad it all gets.
No comfort really though.
Sorry for the loss of your brother Baker. Apalling reesponse, or lack of it, by the police.
Security(Armed forces & secret sevices) & policing(police, courts, prisons) are a fundermental basic responsability of government.
Russia has called Ukrainian counter attacks terrorism. To characterize UK rioting, unacceptable though it is, as terrorism, shows a disturbing willingness to adopt the language of a regime of murderers. Hooliganism isn’t terrorism and the contrast between the tolerance of Islamic intimidation of Jews and others and the hard line taken against demonstrators expressing their anger about it is deeply worrying.
Just bear in mind all these heads of police and whatever all went to the same universities as the activists causing all the bother over climate change etc!
It is just my opinion and therefore not even remotely of any interest but, UK Police have gone from being Pro-active ( walking the beat) to re-active, (turning up en-masse in top of the range BMW’s, Range Rovers, all looking like US Navy Seals and Special Ops) whilst closing all the local stations, creating 101 non urgent therefore non contactable humans and hiding behind closed doors doing endless amounts of computer based reports.
For a period of 18 months, a local un-insured, un-taxed and un-hinged druggie so called biker was riding his un-baffled pile of crap 600cc Bandit around our town, every Friday and Saturday night at 1.30 am in the morning for at least two hours, keeping almost the entire town awake yet despite all the reports, not once did the police even bother to get involved.
Only when he died did they react.
There is more to this story, I did try to reach out to him, offer help in a few ways, it was all ignored though.
Police answer to Politicized TV anchors, Academics than to the public.
And another thing, could “they”not have found a nicer picture that at least didn’t make this bloke look like a Russian hit man on a mission in Salisbury ?
FFS. come on chaps, he looks like a mass murdering torturer with only bad intensions on his mind. Is he really on the British side ? 🤔😁
To be fair, the CTUs and CTIUs around the country do great work, and are a valued line in our nations defences.
Sending them to chase down rioters and vandals is a waste of a valuable resource, they are not terrorists.
Exactly and long may they continue to do so.
It’s not terrorism, but I do have a simple view on this..I don’t really give a shite what your beef is if you:
1) directly incite violence you get arrested in person or online charged and if found guilty go to prison.
2) undertake violent actions using protest as an excuse you get arrested and if found guilty go to prison
3) set fire to a building with people in it. Get arrested and if guilty go to prison for a very very very long time…setting light to a building with a person in it is attempted murder no more no less.
4) break into shops and steal stuff, get arrested and go to prison
5) threaten violence to someone..get arrested go to court and if guilty get a sentence commensurate with the threat…
6) willfully damage property…as above.
I really don’t give a shite if the person is protesting to free Palestine, global warming, the price of beans or immigrants….
we have the right to protest..but not the right to undertake violence, threaten or damage properties …anyone who does the above 6 things losses the right to be called a protestor and becomes a criminal simple as….they all deserve exactly what they get…but they are not terrorists….
Yep, you cannot really say anything against that, just an excuse to cause mayhem.
Agreed.
Yes, all of which are Police matters.
Using an otherwise peaceful protest to carry out criminal acts such as what we saw on TV, should be dealt with by the Police.
That is all nice if they answer to the same disorder type the same. And they will not.
They will let the Leftist-Islamist disorders go rampant .
Extreme Left do not even exists as a term anymore, they are washed as Activists by journalists precisely to manipulate the language and the narrative.
