A French A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft has refuelled Swedish JAS-39 Gripen fighters between Norway and Iceland during a High North air activity linked to NATO’s Icelandic Air Policing mission, NATO Allied Joint Force Command Norfolk stated.
In a social media update, JFC Norfolk said the refuelling supported the deployment of Swedish fighter aircraft to Iceland, where they are operating from Keflavík Air Base.
The command also noted that Sweden will lead NATO’s Icelandic Air Policing mission for the first time since joining the Alliance. According to NATO, the mission supports peacetime air surveillance and helps safeguard NATO airspace.

France’s Joint Staff also confirmed the activity, describing joint flights and aerial refuelling involving a French A330-MRTT tanker and four Swedish Gripens en route to an Enhanced Air Policing mission. The French military said the activity reflected cooperation between France and its European NATO allies in support of collective security in the North Atlantic.
