The Ministry of Defence has issued a contract award notice for the procurement of the Callen-Lenz Nyan One-Way Effector (OWE), in a move it says will strengthen deep fires capability for UK forces deployed on Operation Cabrit.
The contract, published on 17 February, was awarded via direct award procedure under the Defence and Security regime. The deal is valued at £4,996,500 excluding VAT (£5,995,800 including VAT) and has been awarded to Callen-Lenz Associates Limited, based in Chilmark, Wiltshire.
According to the notice, the MOD has “invested significantly” in the development and acquisition of the Nyan OWE, which has already been tested and assured by other MOD departments and previously purchased by the Army. The OWE programme now aims to bring the mature system into wider Field Army use.
The MOD said the Nyan is the only off-the-shelf product of its type registered on the Military Aircraft Register, has a UK MOD Article 36 legal review, and integrates common government furnished equipment. It added that this makes it the only feasible option for rapid introduction into service “on the grounds of safety and legality”.
The award decision date is listed as 16 February 2026, with a standstill period running until 26 February. The earliest contract signature date is 2 March 2026. The contract is expected to run from 2 March 2026 to 31 March 2026, covering a 30-day period.
