A 33-year-old American man from Leeds has been charged with eleven terrorism offences following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, the organisation stated.
Jason Symons faces nine counts of collecting information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000. He is also charged with two counts of dissemination of terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
The charges follow his arrest on 29 January 2025 as part of an intelligence-led counter-terrorism operation. No further details about the nature of the material involved have been released.
Symons appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 17 March and is scheduled to appear next at the Central Criminal Court on 27 March.
Counter Terrorism Policing North East said the case forms part of its ongoing efforts to investigate and disrupt suspected terrorist activity.
