NATO has placed a EUR 200 million order for 120mm tank ammunition through its procurement agency, as part of a wider effort to rebuild Allied stockpiles and strengthen deterrence, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency said.
The contract, awarded to Rheinmetall under a multinational framework, supports several Allies in replenishing critical Land Battle Decisive Munition stocks, according to the agency.
The order was placed through the Ammunition Support Partnership, which allows participating nations to pool demand and procure ammunition collectively, speeding up acquisition and reducing costs while sending a clear signal to industry, the agency stated.
“We need more defence production. We need quantity and quality. And we need it quickly,” NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said following a Defence Ministers’ meeting in February.
NSPA said that by consolidating multinational demand, Allies are encouraging industry to expand production capacity and strengthen supply chains, with the partnership designed to deliver both short-term stock replenishment and longer-term industrial resilience.
The agreement builds on a series of framework contracts signed in 2025 covering the full range of 120mm ammunition for major NATO tank platforms, allowing countries to place orders more rapidly through a centralised system.
“Through the Ammunition Support Partnership, Allies are sending a multi-year, multi-national demand signal to industry,” the NSPA General Manager said, adding that the approach is intended to ensure forces have the ammunition needed to maintain readiness.

I don’t know if anyone saw the idiotic interview with the head of Rheinmetall?
I couldn’t believe what he was saying about UKR and drones. If you are fighting a much larger enemy and your ‘housewives’ can make effective weapons then you get them to make effective weapons. UKR are busily teaching everyone how to use medium tech to combat medium tech rather than doing what is going on in the gulf and using super high tech to deal with medium and low tech threats. Save the superb tech for threat vectors that need it. If you can 3D print your way out of the problem then that is exactly the sane way to deal with it.
Thats is because Rheinmetall only wants to flog very expensive kit thats great at every thing but too expensive to buy much or lots of ammo for. , btw look at the so called PZ2000 a nightmare to keep it going in Ukraine it hates damp and mud unlike the more basic AS90, the Puma IvF keeps breaking down as its like most of their kit is over enginered and great on trials but crap in the field.
Not the sort of language you expect from the CEO of an important multi national company. Trying to belittle the efforts of a country facing the onslaught of 1 of the worlds superpowers is nothing short of cheap and disingenuous. If he’s got any sense of pride he’ll apologise and step down from his position.
Hopefully was can have a few to store in case we get any tanks!!!!
