Thales unveils compact anti-jam military GPS system

Thales has launched a new positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) system designed to operate in contested electronic warfare environments, the company stated.

The TopStar Smart Receiver combines three core functions, positioning, navigation and timing, into a single compact unit intended for integration across land vehicles, drones and munitions. The system is aimed at maintaining operational capability in environments where satellite signals may be degraded or denied.

According to the company, the receiver incorporates a dual-constellation GNSS capability, drawing on both military signals, including Galileo PRS, and civilian GPS. It is also designed to resist spoofing and improve accuracy and signal availability.

The system includes an anti-jamming capability through an adaptive Controlled Radiation Pattern Antenna (CRPA), which Thales says allows operation significantly closer to jamming sources than conventional receivers. It also features an onboard high-performance clock, enabling continued synchronisation of tactical radios for up to 48 hours in the event of GNSS signal loss.

Thales states that the receiver has been developed and produced within a European industrial base, with assembly taking place at its site in Valence, France. The company describes the system as one of the most compact and cost-effective solutions currently available for this type of application.
