Boeing T-X aircraft revealed

Boeing and partner Saab AB have revealed the Boeing T-X, an all-new aircraft designed specifically for US Air Force training requirements.

In December 2013, Boeing and Saab Group announced they would team up to offer a new aircraft for the T-X program. In August 2016, Boeing publicly revealed first pictures of the T-X concept.

This week, the aircraft was finally revealed. Boeingmade clear that the planes weren’t prototypes and that they plan on performing flight tests by the end of the year.

The Boeing T-X aircraft has one engine, twin tails, stadium seating and an advanced cockpit with embedded training. The system also offers state-of-the-art ground-based training and a maintenance-friendly design for long-term supportability.

The design is reportedly more affordable and flexible than older, existing aircraft.

Boeing Defense, Space & Security President and CEO Leanne Caret said:

“Our T-X is real, ready and the right choice for training pilots for generations to come.”

T-X will replace the Air Force’s aging T-38 aircraft. Initial operating capability is planned for 2024.

The first Boeing T-X trainer aircraft was revealed to the public in St. Louis on Tuesday, September 13th, 2016. This aircraft will represent Boeing in the upcoming competition for the US Air Force Training Mission.
