Demonstrating the United States’ ongoing commitment to its NATO Allies and Partners, the USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19), associated with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), docked in Narvik, Norway on Aug. 5, 2023.

The ship is accompanied by the embarked 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC).

“USS Mesa Verde and the 26th MEU(SOC) team is excited to visit Narvik, with its rich military history, and to work with Norwegian forces to increase our interoperability and strengthen our strategic partnership,” commented Capt. Marc Davis, Commanding Officer of the USS Mesa Verde.

During its stay, the Mesa Verde intends to unload equipment and vehicles of the U.S. Marine Corps.

These resources will be used in a joint training exercise with Norway, highlighting the reinforced bond between the U.S., Norway, and other NATO Allies and Partners.

When you are a super power that does not surprise me.

What is the “Ghost Gator” mural on the hanger doors? For the helicopter units it embarks?

The RN could have all sorts of fun if it went down the same route branding its vessels like that.

Worked on a couple of San Antinio Class doing defect repairs. I am now getting triggered looking at the hangar door!…Useless things!

Broken winch motor hauls the panels up guideways to make it fold open.
The motor was defective, and it was put in the most awkward and ill-conceived position for replacement that you could imagine. To change it involved a metric S**t tonne of staging, chocking the door, and obtaining some unique imperial sized, threaded and material bolts to secure it.
Then set to work to align all the micro switch/sensors.

All whilst trying not to break any of the Cobras and Hueys in the hangar and on the flight deck that couldn’t be moved because of the broken door.

Its sister ship just arrived here having passed through the SoH a few days ago. Jufair and Adlyia (the bars, clubs and brunches areas) will be mobbed this weekend with pished up USN and USMC and the working girls will be busy “lovin you long time!” (And yes, they still say that!).

I for one will be staying well clear and closer to home for my weekend drinky’s. UK tribute act doing Stone Roses and The Verve so worth the hangover, I think.
