No. 614 (County of Glamorgan) Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force, has received two awards in recognition of its exceptional performance and teamwork, according to a Royal Air FOrce enws update.
The squadron, parented by RAF Brize Norton, was awarded the Clyde Trophy, an annual accolade given to the Royal Auxiliary Air Force unit demonstrating the highest performance in media and public relations.
The squadron’s extensive media engagement throughout 2024, which included features on BBC and ITV Wales, as well as coverage in print, online, and RAF channels, was highlighted as a key achievement.
“We’re extremely proud to have been awarded this trophy that recognises the superb efforts by our Media Flight in reflecting the fantastic work Squadron officers and aviators have done supporting the RAF in the UK and overseas during this special RAuxAF centenary year,” said Squadron Leader Matthews, Executive Officer of No. 614 Squadron.
Adding to their accolades, the squadron’s Media Flight also received the Howard Leader Trophy, which celebrates exceptional teamwork and high-quality work. The award was presented to Flight Lieutenant Wade, Sergeant Sharples, and Corporal Harris for their media efforts marking the 100th anniversary of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
Their contributions included organising an exhibition at the Welsh Parliament, generating widespread media coverage, and publishing On Dragons’ Wings, a history of No. 614 Squadron authored by Flight Lieutenant Wade.
“It was wonderful to win one trophy, but to get two within the space of a week is phenomenal. I’m extremely proud of the fantastic work done by our Media Flight and recognition of their efforts in this award is richly deserved,” said Squadron Leader Matthews.
