BAE and Repkon to boosting munitions supply capacity

BAE Systems and Repkon USA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development and production of advanced munitions, aiming to enhance supply chain resilience and meet increasing global demand.

The agreement will focus on improving the range, precision, and performance of ammunition, while also exploring ways to scale up production of propellants and explosives through advanced manufacturing techniques.

Glynn Plant, Managing Director of BAE Systems Land, described the partnership as an important step in ensuring reliable munitions supply:

“Ongoing world events demonstrate the importance of partnership to ensure we can supply critical munitions capabilities to meet demand. Industry’s ability to scale munitions production is an essential part of this, and by working together with others, we can better support our customers.”

Bryan Van Brunt, President of Repkon USA, highlighted the technological advancements that will be leveraged in the collaboration:

“This collaboration between Repkon and BAE Systems aims to provide our customers with access to the most advanced, next-generation technologies. What’s most exciting is that the approach incorporates world-leading advanced manufacturing techniques. We are excited to work with the BAE Systems team to see it through to success.”

BAE Systems is a key supplier of ammunition for the Ministry of Defence, manufacturing small arms, artillery shells, and other munitions at several sites across the UK.

Since 2023, the company has made investments to expand 155mm artillery shell production in response to increased demand.

Repkon USA, headquartered in Tampa, Florida, specialises in advanced metal-forming and energetics production and operates facilities in Florida, Kentucky, and Texas. The partnership is expected to support ongoing efforts to increase munitions stockpiles and sustain production capacity for military customers.

This collaboration follows broader trends within the defence industry, as governments and manufacturers seek to secure reliable supply chains for critical munitions amid changing global security requirements.
