A 26-year-old man from Cleethorpes has been handed a 15-year extended sentence for disseminating terrorist publications and encouraging acts of terrorism, including sharing violent Daesh propaganda.
Mohammed Mahfuz Ahmed, of Crowhill Avenue, was found guilty at Sheffield Crown Court in February of one count of Encouraging Terrorism under Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006 and four counts of Disseminating Terrorist Publications under Section 2 of the same Act.
On 16 July, he was sentenced to 10 years in custody with a further five years on licence. Ahmed will also be subject to a Serious Crime Prevention Order for five years and a Terrorism Notification Order for 30 years upon release.
The case followed an intelligence-led investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East. Officers arrested Ahmed on 18 April 2024, and a search of his home revealed a significant volume of terrorist content, including official Daesh propaganda and magazines promoting violent jihad. Investigators described him as having a “deep-seated extremist mindset” and a deliberate intent to amplify such material online.
According to police, Ahmed used five different social media accounts over a five-month period, gathering over 1,300 followers and attracting more than 14,000 likes. When banned from platforms, he created new accounts and even encouraged others to distribute content on his behalf. His posts included calls to violence, graphic imagery, and personal commentary urging others to “Answer the Call.”
Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said: “Ahmed was persistent and determined in his efforts to reach as many people as possible with his posts, which often included graphic content and glorified acts of terrorism. He went to considerable lengths to seek out and share material that could not easily be found on mainstream online platforms, using hashtags to appeal to a wider audience and encourage more followers.”
“The potential impact of his actions should not be underestimated. By sharing Daesh propaganda, he has promoted their cause and intentionally extended the reach and influence of their ideology.”
Authorities urged the public to report extremist material encountered online at www.gov.uk/act, warning that sharing such content is not a victimless crime and may encourage others to commit violence.
good! one less scumbag off the street. I hope they keep him away from gen pop in prison, so that he doesn’t recruit disciples
What about the 1300 followers? The Pied Piper is gone but what about those that followed him.
I mean that’s a good point, and I’m sure the police will be looking at it I hope that any found to be here on visas or illegally will be removed but I’m willing to bet not , if I’m honest I thought isis were defeated or was this historical stuff when they were around
I suspect not a single one of that 1300 has been researched.
That’s just sad isn’t it I bet it’s a treasure trove of connections and vast amounts of intelligence they would get from it
I see we’re currently still allowed to talk about this stuff. Wonder how long until Two-Tier “saves us all” from it and puts blocks on sites like this. After all, it’s a site dedicated to military news which might expose us all to harm…
