A drunk driver has been arrested after he arrived at RAF Mildenhall, a base hosting American aircraft and personnel, telling police he was “looking for Donald Trump”.

Officers from Mildenhall Police were called to assist the Ministry of Defence Police at the base.

In a tweet, Mildenhall Police said:

“Neighbourhood Response Team this morning have assisted Ministry of Defence Police at RAF Mildenhall who arrested a drink driver after he arrived at the gates looking for Donald Trump.”

In a statement, the base told me:

U.S. Airmen assigned to the 100th Security  Forces Squadron detained a civilian in a vehicle at the main base gate at approximately 6:30  a.m., March 14. Organized, trained and equipped to defend against threats to the Air Force, 100th SFS Defenders first made contact with the individual when he arrived at the gate attempting to gain access to the  installation to meet former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Mission-ready, resilient and air-minded 100th SFS Defenders and Ministry of Defence Police  safely took custody of the man, who was under the influence of alcohol, and transferred him to  the Mildenhall Town Suffolk Constabulary.”

RAF Mildenhall is a British owned base but it is largely operated by the U.S. Air Force.

  1. Well at least this time, they stopped him at the main gate: (from 2017)
Man who drove through security at RAF Mildenhall found not guilty of affray
A man who was shot at a dozen times as he drove through security at RAF Mildenhall with a teddy bear strapped to his chest has been cleared of affray. Glenn Wardle, 48, arrived at the main gate of the US Air Force base in Suffolk on December 18, 2017, claiming he was from the US Secret Service, Ipswich Crown Court previously heard. During the incident, he told staff he “wanted to speak to the president”. Wardle drove his father’s black Volvo XC-70 through gates before swerving around a pop-up barricade. Armed security staff shot at the vehicle a dozen times, and one guard was dragged along the ground for 30 metres as he tried to grab the car keys, the court heard. Wardle then drove towards an Osprey multi-purpose aircraft and was about to drive up the lowered ramp onto the plane when his car was rammed by security vehicles. He was removed from the Volvo at gunpoint and became agitated when the teddy bear on his lap was wrenched away from him by security officers who feared it was a bomb, Catherine Bradshaw, prosecuting, said. After his arrest Wardle, who was described as “babbling”, told officers he wanted to get on the plane because he needed “to see the president”.

Personally I put it down to that extra chromosome, the natives in Norfolk all have.

  2. May I suggest this is possible a story to do with mental health rather than important defence issues. Lets please keep the quality of reporting and informing here up to its usual high standards …

    • possible as the persons alcohol level was not hugely high. But it would have still been to high for a mental health assessment as some people do some very strange things with even a small amount over the limit. Alcohol impaired judgment is a funny old thing.

    • I should say mental health, I would venture “sandwich short of a picnic” as a diagnosis, or as my dad would have said, “gone to live with with the pixies at the bottom of the garden”.

      Both seem valid….

I would point out, no blame was attached to the teddy bear and he was released after questioning…

On a serious note, I hope the serviceman who was dragged along is ok.

  3. Hopefully it was like the headline makes it sound and not too serious of an incident. Nevertheless, it’s not a surprise that amidst the chaos of the past few weeks, the backlash against Putin’s Biggest Fan Boy is only just beginning. Anybody can say whatever they want until they have a record to run on then all of a sudden they end up like Bush.

    • Putin’s biggest fanboy? You mean the one who placed sanctions on Russia – which Biden removed? The one who vetoed the Nordstream pipeline from Russia to Europe – which Biden removed, worsening Europes dependence on Putin for their energy. You really should read in a more informed way.

  4. Another US V-22 has crashed, this time in Norway. After being 30 minutes late at its destination it was reported missing, Norwegian search and rescue aircraft has found the beacon but unable to land due to bad weather so ground crews been dispatched. Four people reported to be onboard.

  5. Makes a change from USA staff leaving the base sober on the wrong side of the road and committing Murder.

    and then fleeing home.
