Ukraine has received more than 650 applications to register on TrophyLab, its web portal for the study of captured Russian equipment, of which 389 came from foreign defence manufacturers, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.

The portal brings together analysis of captured Russian weapons drawn from the Defence Forces of Ukraine, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine and specialist research institutions. Registration is open to Ukrainian manufacturers, military units and government institutions as well as to companies in partner countries.

The department said: “TrophyLab brings together unique data on captured russian weapons for engineers, scientists, and defense technology manufacturers from Ukraine and partner countries.”

Applicants are screened before they are let anywhere near the catalogue, and the ministry said that during registration “all applicants are screened to verify that they have no ties to russia, are not subject to Ukrainian or international sanctions, and meet other mandatory eligibility criteria.”

Successful applicants get access to a catalogue of samples of Russian weapons and the results of their analysis. Research results can be reviewed online, or samples ordered for offline study, and the ministry said every registered researcher can request a sample or a fragment of one for independent examination through the portal.

On the purpose of the arrangement, the department said: “Access to TrophyLab allows users to share information on russian weapons securely and more quickly, which speeds up the development of effective countermeasures for the Defence Forces of Ukraine. It is also Ukraine’s significant contribution to international security and to the defense capabilities of partner countries.”

Putting captured equipment in front of foreign engineers at this scale changes the pace of a process Western defence establishments have run quietly for decades. Technical exploitation of enemy kit, working out how a radar seeker discriminates targets or what frequency a jammer protects against, has traditionally been done inside government laboratories, and the findings have moved slowly into industry through classified channels. Ukraine is offering something closer to a shared catalogue with a sample request form attached.

Britain already has a route of its own into Ukrainian battlefield data. The ministry noted that the United Kingdom became the first of Ukraine’s international partners to join Avengers Labs, the platform for training artificial intelligence models for uncrewed systems on real battlefield data. The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory has also been receiving and examining Russian equipment recovered in Ukraine through the war, and exploitation work of that kind has informed several of the counter-drone and electronic warfare programmes now in British service.

  1. Let’s be frank about why the Ukraine war has dragged on so long. Four and a half years now; the casualties on both sides have reached levels not seen since WW1. British intelligence estimates of Russian losses place total Russian military casualties between 1.3 million and 1.45 million, including approx 480,000 fatalities.

When the war began Biden, clearly suffering from early stage dementia, was obsessed that any American actions in support of Ukraine could be considered “escalatory”. Biden was clearly terrified of the frequent Russian threats to launch a nuclear attack on NATO, should he provide Ukraine with sufficient lethal aid to enable them to throw the war criminal Putin’s conscript army out of the Donbas and Crimea

Enter Trump. Trump and Zelenskyy have history going back to a formal 30-minute phone call Trump made with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on July 25, 2019. Trump demanded that Zelenskyy dig up dirt on Biden and Biden’s son Hunter to help his election campaign.

The conversation occurred while Trump was withholding roughly $400 million in congressionally approved military aid to Ukraine. Details of the exchange surfaced two months later through a whistleblower complaint, which sparked Trump’s first congressional impeachment inquiry. Zelenskyy declined and Trump was impeached. For the first time

Since then, Trump has stopped all military and financial aid to Ukraine, while providing $billions and $billions of aid to Israel and the devious Netanyahu. He has denied Ukraine the intellectual property to produce their own Patriot missiles – after previously agreeing to do so. This has extended to instructing the very odd Pete Hesketh to divert Ukraine lethal weaponry – already paid for by the EU – to his failed Iran campaign

Trump, the Vietnam war draft dodger, has frequent “very good” telephone conversations with his “good friend” the war criminal Putin. He has sent envoys to Moscow no less than 8 times, while bravely refusing to visit Kyiv himself to see the damage his anti-Ukraine policies have done. He has repeatedly threatened to leave NATO and is currently “reviewing” American force levels in Europe. None of this benefits anybody except Putin.

Trump has alienated America’s NATO allies, making threats to annex Canada. Panama and Greenland. Trump has destroyed the “special relationship” between America and Britain with his threat to support Argentina over the Falklands. The Five Eyes intelligence sharing network has been seriously damaged because of Trump’s proven tendency to discuss intelligence sources with Putin, the Russian war criminal, during their regular “very good” phone conversations

And now Trump has transitioned from denying Ukraine lethal and financial aid to actively supporting Putin, the Russian war criminal, with sanctions relief.

Trump is being completely outplayed by Putin. The question has to be asked, what is the hold that Putin has over Trump? Trump is behaving exactly as you would expect a Russian asset to behave and indeed, this weekend many Americans are waking up to the fact that their president may be actively working against American interests.

    • Indeed. In fact no “may be” about it. He is actively destroying the constitution, rule of law, alliance with NATO, independence of the judiciary, making decisions & deals that funnel huge sums of public money into his or his family/backers pockets, fawning after many of the USAs enemies & evading justice in many cases, especially his Epstein crimes. He has filled his administration with thick, corrupt, incompetent, crawling, treacherous, slackers. All the while lying from his Gatling gun mouth.
Encouraging Argentina to press its empty claims to the Falklands shows his mendacity.

It was hideous watching Kier sucking up to him naively hoping to reign him in, while Trump just spewed evil out. November could be either the start of the USA closing him down, or, more likely a decent into totalitarianism & civil war. That would be an ideal time for Xi to attempt invading Taiwan or Putin trying open another front against NATOs eastern boarders. Though the latter would be pretty insane as even without the USA NATO over matches Russia by a long way & Russia is barely keeping its head above water trying to maintain its war against Ukraine.
I hated the lackadaisical way we supported Ukraine from the start, only slowly, eventually giving her what she really needed & cowed before Putins threats & buster. It cost many more Ukrainian lives than probably necessary, but we now see Russia on the ropes, albeit with Putin still believing he can win this. But UK forces remain largely at below even minimal quiet peacetime levels, the escort fleet at a tiny fraction of what it needs to be even for peacetime.
We still suck up to Xi for investment when Xi, Putin & now trump are the biggest threat to NATO & the UK. The Tories too sucked up to Russia & China throughout the last 20+ years. So naive, feeding the monsters intent on destroying us. Nonetheless I’m glad we are among the strongest backer of Ukraine, but we are playing a dangerous game with far less to back it up if this phoney war(Russian & Chinese grey warfare) goes hot & full.

  2. It’s fascinating for me to wonder exactly what Russian kit we’ve been gifted for study?
I know we have long had various types of Russian radar and SAM at Spadeadaam alongside the threat emulating systems and dummy targets.
It must be a goldmine, makes me think of BRIXMIS and the lengths they went to to get data in East Germany.

You can be sure that somebody in Trump’s “Administration” got a nice backhander in gold bullion or US Bearer Bonds for arranging this
