JFD Global has signed a new agreement with ST Engineering Marine aimed at widening their long-running cooperation in Singapore and extending collaboration into international markets.

The memorandum of understanding builds on a partnership between the two companies that dates back more than 15 years and was first formalised in 2008 through a joint venture supporting submarine rescue operations for the Republic of Singapore Navy.

Under the new agreement, the companies will explore opportunities beyond submarine rescue, including commercial shipping and the protection of critical underwater infrastructure. The framework is intended to allow both firms to combine JFD’s specialist rescue and subsea expertise with ST Engineering Marine’s shipbuilding, repair and conversion capabilities. The arrangement also creates scope for cooperation outside Singapore, giving both companies flexibility to pursue joint work in additional regions where naval and subsea support requirements are growing.

Jean Vernet, Chief Executive of James Fisher and Sons, said the agreement reflected the company’s emphasis on international partnerships, stating: “The decades of support we have provided to the Republic of Singapore Navy highlights the depth and trust in our relationship.” He added that the companies would look to broaden collaboration “to support navies around the world as they grow and evolve.”

Tan Leong Peng, President of Marine at ST Engineering, said the partnership had already demonstrated its value through submarine support programmes, noting: “With this MoU, we will leverage our complementary strengths to explore emerging opportunities and new markets for subsea shipbuilding, commercial newbuilds and MRO.”

JFD Global, part of the James Fisher group, provides specialist marine and defence services including submarine rescue, diving systems and underwater infrastructure protection. ST Engineering Marine is a major provider of naval and commercial shipbuilding, maintenance and conversion services in the Asia-Pacific region.
