Two people have been charged following an attempt to enter HM Naval Base Clyde, the home of the UK’s nuclear-armed submarine fleet.

Police Scotland said a 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman have now been arrested and charged in connection with the incident, which took place on Thursday evening.

“Around 5pm on Thursday, 19 March, 2026, we were made aware of two people attempting to enter HM Naval Base Clyde,” police said.

The pair are due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday, 23 March.

“A 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident,” the statement added, noting that enquiries remain ongoing.

This follows initial reports that two individuals had been detained after attempting to gain access to the base. The Royal Navy previously confirmed the individuals had “unsuccessfully attempted” to enter the site and did not gain access.

HM Naval Base Clyde, located near Helensburgh, is home to the UK’s Vanguard-class submarines, which carry the country’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent.

  1. Remember when a UK court not only let off a bunch of whackjobs that broke into a defence facility off the hook but they also let the man who assaulted a female police officer with a sledgehammer go as well?
These two will get a slap on the wrist by our scumbag judiciary

      • The palestine action goons? They were let go you fool, with the exception of one.
Maybe do some research before commenting

      • Samuel Corner was released after the Jury could not reach a verdict on him an 2 other of violent disorder, and GBH with intent for Samuel Corner, despite Police BWC showing the assault directly. So none of the 6 charged are in jail. It would appear that Jurors are now also being rather political in its actions, but the Judge should have directed the Jury to a conclusion as the BWC is clear as day.

          • The 5 were released on Bail with conditions, while Corner was then re-held on remand awaiting a retrial. To be fair they did spend nearly 18 months on Remand, which may seem tough but a Remand prisoner has a lot of privileges a warranted prisoner does not. His re-trial is set for the near future. But it does show how public opinion can and does effect a jury trial, and the judge had to direct the jurors to ignore the pro-Palestinian action propaganda and attempts at influencing the jury…..which obviously failed! Cheers.

  2. As foreign nationals both these individuals can and should be tried as foreign agents.

People need to realise that you don’t have a right to protest on sensitive military sights especially when you are not a citizen.

At the very least both should be deported once custodial sentences are served.

    • TBH it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t suddenly have a change of heart and claim asylum instead. And then be shown to the queue.

      *Joke/Not Joke post.

  3. This country may not be interested in war but war is very much interested in us.

In addition to this attempt to infiltrate a key defence establishment, and previous attempts to interfere with UK elections, Iran has just fired ICBMs at Diego Garcia, 4,000km distance from Iran. That is precisely the distance from Tehran to London.

Let us recall that Iran has enough enriched uranium to fabricate 8 nuclear warheads similar in size to the warhead that destroyed Nagasaki in 1945.

Anyone who believes that Iran is not now endeavouring to integrate a nuclear warhead with its long range ICBMs must be feeling very lucky…

      • An analogous Fat Man-type design at 60 percent could require about twice as much total uranium as at 90 percent. This suggests that Iran’s stockpile of 408 kilograms, as reported by the IAEA, could be used to make 6-8 weapons of that type.

      • Analogous: Comparable, similar, or corresponding to something else, often implying a similar function despite different origins. It describes things that share key features allowing for comparison.

  4. Personally, I would have shot the pair of them on sight, break into any nuclear facility (never mind the ‘key’ UK defence site) and you should get whats coming to you…

I would put signs up saying you will be met with deadly force if you break into this facility.

Probably just ‘ daddy splashed’ ( for those of you old enough to remember Big Daddy) by a fat security guard though….

    • I thought we read here that they just asked at the main gate?
There is an even more secure area further in around certain key buildings and the Vanguards, it’s quite possible they might have been shot there if they ever got that far depending on their actions.

      • Hmm, I assumed unsuccessfully attempted meant cutting through fencing etc…

If they presented at the main gate and tried to walk in, thats a different matter.

That said, we have to take in a whole variety of potential attacks, imagine (for example) somone managing to penetrate into the base and detonating a suicide vest containing radioactive material and spreading it far and wide.

Its obviously a major concern Iran have nuclear materials they can turn into a devastating weapon, it doesn’t have to be in the firm of a warhead, far easier to make a dirty bomb.

As the situation continues to escalate in the Gulf, with Iran clearly not on the ropes yet, its one more terrifying tool they have in the box to use. If they thought their regime was falling, would they use it?
        Yes they absolutely would..

We will see if Trump is capable of closing Pandoras box over the next few weeks.

        • Indeed mate.
Plenty of Iranian espionage activity underway, even though the UK didn’t join the strikes.
Yet I’d bet with confidence that Iran is high up on the list of SIS espionage as well, so it works both ways.
There are far easier targets if they want to do that stuff, but yes, a dirty bomb has always been a primary concern.
I’m sure I heard a SS DG state once it wasn’t a matter of if, but when.

  5. Important to remember that the attempt was unsuccessful. Well done to all involved in apprehending these two. I’m sure we will be drip fed more details as the case progresses.
