L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a contract worth up to $292 million to continue producing solid rocket motors for the Javelin weapon system, the company stated.
According to L3Harris, the award is the largest propulsion production contract to date for the Javelin programme and secures production for the next five years.
The company is the sole producer of Javelin solid rocket motors, which power the system built by the Lockheed Martin-Raytheon joint venture for the U.S. Army, Marine Corps and international customers.
Ken Bedingfield, President of Aerojet Rocketdyne at L3Harris, said in the press release: “Javelin provides a key capability for the United States, allies and partners. Our ongoing investments in modernised solid rocket motor manufacturing will allow us to increase production capacity for Javelin by incorporating the latest advancements in automation into the motor casting and installation processes.”
The company stated that it is also introducing a fully digital workflow for Javelin production to allow real-time data tracking, aiming to improve quality control and production efficiency.
L3Harris highlighted that these efforts are part of wider investments in solid rocket motor manufacturing, including a $215.6 million cooperative agreement with the Department of War.
