The Scottish Government’s External Affairs Secretary Angus Robertson will today outline the Scottish Government’s vision of an independent Scotland as an internationalist country promoting peace, prosperity and climate action.

Mr Robertson will launch a new policy paper – ‘An independent Scotland’s place in the world’, setting out the government’s proposals for joining the international community as a sovereign state, defence and security as a full NATO member, and international development work to champion the voices of Global South countries.

The paper will cover how an independent Scotland would represent itself on the international stage in its own right for the first time, with a seat at the table at the UN, the EU and other important global and regional forums.

It will also discuss proposals for the armed forces in an independent Scotland, including the removal of nuclear weapons from the country.

Mr Robertson said:

“Independence would mean that Scotland gets to determine the type of nation it wants to be on the world stage. A nation that acts based on its values and principles, promotes human rights and development, and builds partnerships with other countries and international organisations to address global challenges.

As an independent country we could renew and strengthen our existing relationships on these islands and around the world – promoting peace, prosperity and climate action, as a good global citizen committed to safeguarding human rights and upholding international law and the rules-based order. Scotland has a long history of being an outward-looking nation and I look forward to setting out our proposals in detail.”

More on this as it happens.

A seat at the EU once they have sorted a currency option and reduced the spending deficit. Met all the joiners economic rules and constructed a goods border with England ( NI may be different due to the fudge)
Is the purpose of a defence force to boost climate action?
Presumably they wouldn’t want nasty US Raytheon building PW4 and selling them to countries they don’t approve of, and can fili order for Bae and Babcock shipyards?

They would also need to create a Central Bank before they could join the EU, and accept their share of the UK National Debt which is horrendously large.

I assume this ‘breaking out the crayons’ policy paper is on the Scottish government’s budget as the SNP haven’t got a pot to piss in. 😡

It would be great if they could just do the day job and run the country, if they put as much effort into it as they do their fantasies I’m sure things would improve.

All the Yoons dissing a paper they haven’t read yet is just hilarious.

Imagine going thru life thinking that being another nations cash cow is the best way forward.

Yuck, more fool them.

Not dissing the paper: dissing the press release. If they don’t want that, they should wait until they’ve put out the paper before issuing the press release. If they want double the column inches, they have to be prepared to take double the flack.

Not for me to do – I have neither the intelligence nor the background to produce any real informed and detailed UK centric contribution

I’m merely making an observation- if thats no longer encouraged then I won’t

Oh dear! They want to be independent so that they can give away all their sovereignty to every Tom, Dick and Harry socialist organization round the globe. Pathetic!

So break it first so they can put it back together again?
