Royal Navy personnel have been recognised for their operational photography and videography in the service’s annual Peregrine Awards, highlighting imagery captured during deployments and exercises worldwide, the Royal Navy stated.
The awards, which recognise both professional and amateur contributors, showcase imagery from across naval operations, including Arctic training, maritime deployments and global exercises. Judges reviewed hundreds of submissions, reflecting a wide range of activity across the Royal Navy and Royal Marines over the past year.
Petty Officer Alexandra Ceolin was named Royal Navy Photographer of the Year for her work with the UK Commando Forces. She also accepted the Peregrine Trophy on behalf of her unit, recognising the best photographic team in the service. “The greatest privilege is the unparalleled visibility being a photographer gives you across the entire Service. You see everything, capturing moments which not only record naval history, but also showcase the extraordinary work of sailors, marines, and units worldwide – it’s both an honour and a responsibility,” she said.
Petty Officer James Clarke received multiple awards, including Videographer of the Year, with his Christmas production Silent Night drawing significant public attention. “It’s a great feeling to have picked up multiple wins in this year’s competition. It makes it even better knowing the winning images and videos will be on display at the new Royal Marines Museum in Portsmouth later this year,” he said.
The Royal Navy said its photographers play a role beyond media and communications, contributing to intelligence gathering, operational records and technical reporting. Warrant Officer 2 Owen Cooban said: “Our work is vital – not just for conveying the Royal Navy’s story to the wider world, but for providing intelligence, helping engineers fix problems and recording what the Navy does, wherever it does it, 24/7/365.”
Winning entries will be shown at the new Royal Marines Museum in Portsmouth when it opens later this year, with awards due to be formally presented in September.
