NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has appointed Allison Hart as the alliance’s new Spokesperson.
She will lead public messaging and provide strategic communications advice to the Secretary General, the North Atlantic Council, and stakeholders across NATO institutions.
Hart has held several senior roles at NATO Headquarters in Brussels since 2011, including Deputy Director of the Secretary General’s Private Office, Head of the Human Security Unit, Special Advisor to the Deputy Secretary General, and Executive Officer of the Public Diplomacy Division.
From 2022 to 2023, she took leave from NATO to serve as Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff to OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid in Vienna.
Before joining NATO, Hart worked at The Brookings Institution in Washington, contributing to research on national security and transatlantic affairs. She began her career as an entrepreneur in Chicago, where she founded and ran two businesses.
Hart holds a BA in Middle East Language and Civilization from Northwestern University and an MA in European Studies and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

Rutte is in the U.S. today and tomorrow, meeting with ‘daddy’ and the usual crew. Hopefully, he packed his knee pads and mouthwash. Let’s see what he commits us to this time—without asking.
