The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Bulkeley has now departed His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde after a port visit that underlined the strength of U.S.-UK defence ties.
Arriving on 25 April, the guided-missile destroyer called into Faslane as part of her ongoing patrol with the U.S. Sixth Fleet. The stopover, say the U.S. Navy, served to reinforce transatlantic naval cooperation and provided an opportunity for the crew to engage with the local community and refocus after operations in the Atlantic.
Speaking during the visit, Cmdr. Arturo Trejo, commanding officer of Bulkeley, praised the value of partnerships. “The United States does not face the challenging international environment alone,” he said. “Our network of allies and partners in the Euro-Atlantic is an asymmetric advantage that our adversaries can never hope to match.”

Trejo went on to highlight the significance of the stop in the UK. “Our fourth patrol has been a professionally rewarding experience for this hardworking crew. I can think of no better opportunity than an initial stop in Scotland to see and experience this majestic country.”
The destroyer, commissioned in 2001 and named after Vice Admiral John D. Bulkeley, is currently deployed under U.S. Sixth Fleet. Embarked aboard is Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 79, known as the “Griffins.”
The visit by Bulkeley is part of broader U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa activities aimed at enhancing interoperability with NATO allies and demonstrating presence across key strategic waterways.
While the ship has now resumed its patrol, port visits like these underscore the UK’s value as both a host and strategic partner within the NATO alliance.
Possible first step to annexation? Is this why John Swinney was meeting Eric Trump at Butte House? 🤔
