Satellite imagery revealed the aftermath of the strike, showing two impact craters measuring 13.5 metres in diameter, scattered debris, and five emergency response vehicles deployed to the scene. This latest attack underscores Ukraine’s ability to target and dismantle high-value military assets in contested areas.
This is the second successful targeting of a Russian S-400 air defence system by Ukrainian forces in November. On November 23, another system was destroyed in Kursk Oblast, demonstrating Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to neutralise Russia’s defence infrastructure.
Here is the update in full.
“On 29 November 2024, Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed elements of a S-400 air defence system in Simferopol, Crimea. This is the second reported successful targeting of Russian S-400 air defence systems by Ukrainian Armed Forces in November, following the destruction of a S-400 air defence system in Kursk Oblast on 23 November 2024.”
So much for the best air defence Russia has….
Rob, the article did not say that the S-400 failed to defeat an enemy aircraft, which then damaged the S-400. All on the battlefield is vulnerable to one or more counters. It is only part of one S-400 system so is it even worth an article?
Luckily for the Russians, a few S400s have become available in Syria.
I’m sure the new Syria leadership will not be handing ant hardware back to Russia, as Russia have been the ones bombing them.
