The Royal Air Force has appointed Group Captain Samantha Bunn as the new Provost Marshal (RAF) and Commander of the Air Security Force, according to a press release.
In her new role, Group Captain Bunn will act as Chief of the RAF Police, reporting to the Chief of the Air Staff and the Air Force Main Board for police investigations and authority.
The RAF Police are essential to maintaining the security and resilience of the RAF, providing a combination of Law Enforcement, Counter Intelligence, and Protective Security, including Military Working Dogs and Aviation Security. This team of Regular and Reserve military personnel, civil servants, and contractors work tirelessly to secure and enable RAF operations in the UK and worldwide.
“My appointment as the Provost Marshal (RAF) and Commander of the Air Security Force is the greatest honour for a member of the RAF Police fraternity. To lead the exceptional personnel of the RAF Police, MPGS, Civil Servants, and Reservists within the Air Security Force is something I am incredibly proud of and look forward to the next 2 years where we will continue to enable Air and Space commands in the delivery of operations at home and across the globe,” stated Group Captain Bunn.
Group Captain Bunn began her career in the Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment in 1995 before joining Regular service in 1998 as a Weapons Technician. After commissioning as a Provost Officer in 2003, she has held various positions both in the UK and overseas.
Her tenure as a Special Investigations Branch Officer saw her contribute to several high-profile investigations, including the Peer Case Review, which influenced the Haddon-Cave Report. Most recently, she led Number 2 RAF Police and Security Wing, aligning the unit to safeguard 5th generation capabilities.
Knowing that RAFP provide CP teams, in some ways seems a better career choice than RMP because they have their own slime.
BZs to the Group Captain, what a fantastic career progression.
RMP have a CP platoon and are not restricted to Garrison’s in their Policing remit, often working Civil Police, plus SIB, Forensics etc. All forms of UK Military Police train at the same training establishment.
Kind of knew that 😉
My point was having slime experience in your career path would look good on the civi street CV – open a host of opportunities.
They’ve only gone and rebranded and reshuffled the lot again….trying to work out who’s who now!
It’s a shame that this announcement has a tinge of box ticking ,after the top white RAF debacle in the last few years.
Too not top…
After 29 years service. She more than deserves it.
Length of Service is no indication of suitability for any role.
I’m not saying she doesnt deserve it of course as I wouldn’t know what criteria is pertinent nor how she fulfills that criteria.
If it was about a bloke being promoted. nobody would comment. Men/Women do not get promoted to such positions of responsibility to tick boxes. She has been appointed because she has proven she is more than capable of the position and the responsibilities that go with it.
If was a bloke being promoted there will not be news here about it. So there will not be comments….
I did officer training with her a long time ago, she’s always been hard working and never about any kind of message or politics, she’ll be great at the job
