Social media has been buzzing recently with claims that China has been dropping food and medical supplies to Gaza from the air.
The posts, which feature footage of a C-17 aircraft releasing pallets of aid, have been widely shared, with captions praising China’s humanitarian efforts and presenting it as a contrast to Western inaction. However, a closer look at the evidence shows that these claims are simply not true.
This article is a fact checking article, if you believe we’ve made an error you can submit a correction in line with our correction policy.
The viral videos and images typically show a C-17 aircraft performing airdrops. Social media users, including popular profiles on TikTok, have posted messages claiming that the Chinese Air Force flew over Egypt to deliver aid to Gaza. One widely circulated post stated: “Chinese airforce flew over Egypt to reach Gaza to provide humanitarian aid.” Others paint China as a humanitarian powerhouse, taking bold action where others haven’t.
The problem with these claims? China doesn’t even operate the C-17 aircraft. The C-17 Globemaster III is a large military transport plane used mainly by the United States and several allied countries, but not by China. That fact alone should be enough to raise doubts.
Investigations into the footage reveal that most of the clips circulating online actually show a United States aid airdrop over Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, from March 2024. The same tower and parachutes seen in the misleading videos confirm that these clips have been repurposed to create a false narrative. This key detail debunks the notion that Chinese planes were involved.
Despite the dramatic presentation, there’s no credible evidence that Chinese planes have been involved in any airdrop missions to Gaza.
Instead, what we do know is that China has been providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza through more conventional means. Reports confirm that China sent food supplies, including rice, via ship to Egypt, which was then transported overland to Gaza. There’s no record or indication of any airdrop operations as part of this aid package.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen misinformation used to boost a nation’s image. In this case, the false narrative of Chinese airdrops seems designed to present China as a proactive humanitarian leader.
The idea that China air-dropped food supplies to Gaza is baseless. The images and videos doing the rounds simply don’t match reality. It’s a reminder that, while social media can spread stories quickly, it’s worth taking a moment to question the source and think critically before sharing. Getting the facts right matters, especially when it comes to global humanitarian efforts.
In not sure why anyone would think that China, a country that’s committing more acts of genocide against muslims than Bibi could dream of would give enough of a crap to drop food supplies to Palestinians.
I guess it’s cheaper spreading this falsehood than actually doing it when the perceived positivity it generates is not dissimilar to those who want to believe it. Either way the aim is to generate soft power around the World. We have seen in the US (and indeed many here who spread the falsehood generated) how half a population just buy into blatant lies and even into images of a military service avoider in Rambo outfit ‘protecting America’ can have the desired effect. Scarily this is becoming increasingly sophisticated even as the imagery often becomes less and less believable so either our Lords and Masters of every hue are increasingly dismissive of our intelligence or we in great numbers are as stupid as they think.
And recent events don’t suggest that most Muslim Countries put Muslims before personal or national gain. Just look at Saudi Arabia which happily murderis those who disagree with its motives (even US citizens) and Qatar the which in particular has been seen as a supporter of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran or at best happy to tolerate them. Moral foreign policies are for the West and decreasingly even that recently, money, or meme coin talks not to mention the associated corruption and as Trump is taking it to new unashamed heights I can’t see others even mimicking and concern with morality in dealings as Qatar’s 747 gift indicates.
Was this article written by a 12 yo? China flies the y20 they have a huge fleet of it and it’s a copycat of the Globemaster wtf why do people feels entitled to write stuff about thing they don’t know anything about
Hi Alex,
Your comment completely misses the point. Yes, China does operate the Y-20, which is similar in appearance to the C-17. However, the viral videos clearly show a C-17 Globemaster III, not a Y-20. The C-17 is a military transport aircraft operated primarily by the United States and its allies, not China. Claiming that the plane in the video is Chinese just because it resembles the Y-20 shows a lack of understanding of basic aircraft identification.
Furthermore, the footage circulating online has been traced back to a United States aid drop over Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, from March 2024. It has nothing to do with China. The videos have been repurposed to create a false narrative, and spreading this misinformation only fuels confusion and distorts reality.
Please do your research before making baseless accusations. Misinformation like this does more harm than good.
You are right that is true, I’m ashamed, I made a mistake it was indeed a false news also the Chinese foreign ministry confirmed it.
I’m really sorry for my first entitled comment.
It’s a C17, it’s a proven to be a still from the US aid drop and there is no evidence of any Chinese airdrops in the area,, no official Chinese statement made either. Yet you felt the need to push the idea it is the Chinese and then attack the journalist. Explain yourself.
Not to mention the terrible abuse inflicted on the English language!
Israel is the only country taking care of actual civilians. Everyone else has been caught in the act of aiding Islamic soldiers. This is the fact of the matter.
You know it’s true when they have to say it’s true
90% of facts are completely made up.. that’s total true.
Thats Y-20
No.
